What is the elevation at the RV Park?
Our elevation is 4,200 feet.
How far is it to Crater Lake?
It is 37 miles to Crater Lake. It takes approximately 1 hour to drive there.
Is Rim Drive (the road around Crater Lake) open ?
It depends, year-to-year, on the snow levels. Usually, the road which you can drive around the rim of the lake opens around mid-July. However, the roads are plowed driving up to the lake, but you won’t always being able to drive around it. Check the Crater Lake website for more information. www.nps.gov/crla/index.htm
How long of a drive is it around Rim Drive?
This beautiful drive is 33 miles long, and takes at least 2 hours, depending on how many stops you make along the way.
Can you fish at your campground?
Fishing season varies from year to year. The 2026 fishing season begins May 22nd and ends October 31st on the section of the Williamson River where our park is located. Red-band & rainbow trout are catch and release, single point hook. You may keep up to 2 brown trout that you catch per day, 100 crawdads per guest per day, and unlimited yellow perch (which are amazing for tacos!).
Do you have laundry facilities?
Yes! Washers and dryers are $2 per load and take approximately 30-35 minutes per load.
Can you tent camp?
Yes! Under new management we now allow tent camping in our new area, sites #35-#40.
What is check-in time?
Check-in is 1pm. Check out is 11am. Early arrivals and late departures will be subject to an additional $20 automatic charge to the card on file.
What is the cancellation Policy ?
Daily guests cancelling prior to 2 days before initial check in time (1pm) are subject to a $25 cancellation fee while the rest of your deposit will be refunded. Any reservation made within 2 days of your anticipated arrival date will forfeit the 50% deposit or be able to move that reservation to a future booking. If you are a “no show” you forfeit the 50% deposit.
Monthly Guests: Guests cancelling their monthly reservations will forfeit their $100 deposit.
What is the closest gas/diesel station? Propane ?
One half mile north of the campground is both gas and diesel at the Crater Lake Travel Center, right next to the Kla-Mo-Ya Casino. Our RV Park has propane services available on site.
Are there hiking trails at your RV Park?
There are no trails that leave directly from our park, but there are many in the surrounding area. We have information in our office that will help you find the right adventure.
How far are you from Klamath Falls?
Waterwheel RV Park is located approximately 22 miles north of Klamath Falls. It takes about 30 minutes to drive there.
Why aren’t there any boats on Klamath Lake ?
Klamath Lake is very large, covering approximately 140 square miles, however, the average depth of the lake is only 8 feet. Consequently, no boats are allowed on most of the lake. There are some areas on the west side of the lake where boating is allowed.
What is the closest town?
The town of Chiloquin is located 4 miles from the RV Park. There is a small grocery store and a hardware store, plus a place to have breakfast and lunch during the weekdays. The ‘Two Rivers Art Gallery and Gift Shop’ is also a great place to visit. The nearby Kla-Mo-Ya Casino also has a restaurant (Peak-to-Peak) which is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
